Saturday 2nd August 2025 marked a landmark occasion as the Burstall Flower Show celebrated its 70th anniversary – a cherished community tradition that first began in 1954.
Running from 12–5pm, the show remained true to its roots, with the Flower and Produce Marquee at its heart. Villagers and friends will once again competed in categories ranging from vegetable growing and baking to flower arranging and handicrafts. Visitors also took part in judging The Great Burstall Bake Off, crowning this year’s best Victoria Sandwich.
To mark the 70th milestone, a special treasure hunt took place, featuring memories and moments from past shows and celebrating generations of Burstall families who have taken part over the decades.
This year’s event was held in memory of Nick Fiske, long-serving President of the Burstall Horticultural Society, who passed away in November 2024. Nick was born in Burstall in 1936 and dedicated much of his life to the village, serving as Church Warden, Parish Councillor, and a key organiser of the Flower Show for many years.
Live entertainment came from Ipswich’s Swing Machine Big Band, performing at 1pm and again at 2:15pm. They provided a fitting soundtrack to the classic vehicle display, which included models from the 1930s through to the 1960s. A trophy was awarded for the Best Vehicle.
The show also featured:
• Dog show
• Traditional tug of war
• Punch & Judy
• Craft stalls
• BBQ, beer tent, and refreshments
• Bottle tombola, Oak House Farm animals, and much more!
This year’s show was generously sponsored by Ellisons Solicitors and Gladwells, with additional support from Walnes Seeds and the many local businesses who donated to the grand draw, including the New Wolsey Theatre, SEH French, The Brook Inn, and Adnams of Hadleigh.
From humble beginnings in 1954 – when flower entries cost just sixpence – to today’s vibrant community celebration, the Burstall Flower Show continues to grow, thanks to the passion and dedication of villagers past and present.
2026 will mark the 71st Show having taken place every year since 1954, apart from a 2 year interruption due to lockdowns for covid-19.
The Show will take place on Saturday 1st August 2026 at BURSTALL VILLAGE HALL and the adjoining meadow, IP8 3DR.
